Scott County authorities are investigating a bizarre accident on Interstate 80 early Thursday morning that sent a semi onto a road below the highway.
Investigators say the semi tractor-trailer was west-bound on I-80 when it passed a minivan. When it tried to move back into the right lane, the driver didn't have enough clearance and the trailer hit the van. The van wound up in the ditch and the semi went off the highway and down onto Wells Ferry Road, right under an I-80 overpass.
Fortunately, neither driver was hurt. One was from Missouri and the other was from Toledo, Iowa. The semi driver is facing several citations.
Traffic on Wells Ferry Road was closed to until the semi rig could be removed.
