Associated Press - December 4, 2009 4:14 AM ET

CHICAGO (AP) - Officials at the U.S. Census Bureau's office in Chicago have some good news for people looking for work in Illinois: They're hiring.

The office says about 100,000 people across the state to work as census takers for the 2010 Census between December of this year and June of next year. The temporary jobs pay between $11.50 and $18.50 an hour.

Most of the jobs also require applicants to be U.S. citizens, have a driver's license and the use of a vehicle.

To get 1 of the jobs, applicants must take a basic skills test and undergo a background check.

For information on testing times and locations, the Census Bureau asks people call 1-866-861-2010. Also, there is information at http://www.2010censusjobs.gov.
