Customers disappear from showrooms

ELK RUN HEIGHTS, Iowa (AP) - The heavy snow blanketing Iowa has meant some showrooms look like ghost towns.

Customers aren't beating down the doors at recreational vehicle, boat and bicycle dealers. Thanks to about a foot of snow, some haven't had a customer all week.

Paine's RV co-owner Todd Paine says cold and snow doesn't exactly motivate most people to look at campers with snow piled around them.

As might be expected, Paine says winter is the best time to come to his dealership because that is when he is motivated to move product.

At Waterloo Boats in downtown Waterloo, general manager Larry Vaive says he doesn't consider a lack of customers the past two days a negative. He says the latest snow will intensify cases of cabin fever, prompting a rise in interest in his fishing, runabout and pontoon boats.
