With the state of Illinois having so much trouble paying its bills, how will the backlog affect your tax refund? There are major problems in some states which have been forced to delay tax refund payments until July 1st. As for Illinois, people are saying they've received their money in a quick as 2 weeks to as long as 6 weeks.

According to the Illinois Department of Revenue, they are current on all tax refund payments and they expect it to stay that way. That's because the state puts a portion of money deducted from you paychecks into an account, which is used to pay refunds.

It's a welcomed thought for those who already have plans for the money.

"The house. I just moved into a new house, the furnishings and making it all homier," said one taxpayer.

"I think definitely first and foremost I want to pay off some bills and put some in the bank for future reference with the economy as bad as it is definitely probably savings is key," said another.

The Illinois Department of Revenue is saying the fastest way to receive your refund is to use direct deposit. That should only take a week or two. If you request a paper check, it will take longer.
