Shootings In Davenport

Updated:

It was a violent night in Davenport Wednesday with police responding to two separate shootings in the city.

First, a teenager from Maquoketa, Iowa was shot in the neck. Police say the 15-year-old boy was riding in an SUV driven by his sister. They were on Belle Avenue and Elm Street when police say there was some sort of encounter with a group of people in another vehicle. That's when those from the other vehicle started firing shots.  Police say there were two shots fired, one penetrated the car and struck the victim, the other struck a near-by structure. Police are still looking for the suspects but say the victim is expected to recover.

A second shooting erupted just after 9:00 p.m. at 12th and Pershing in the central city. Police were able to quickly make an arrest just a few blocks away.

"We had some contact with persons in the vehicle and on foot," according to Lt. Jeff Bladel. "A foot pursuit ensued. A gun was recovered. There were several shots supposedly fired," he added.

Police arrested 23 year old Michael Anthony Sheets Jr. of Davenport. He is charged with Carrying a Weapon and Interference involving a Weapon. He's being held in the Scott County Jail.
