Kidnapping Arrests In Davenport Beating

Updated:

UPDATE: Two Davenport men have been arrested on charges connected to the severe beating of a man found in a roadside ditch this week. 24 year old Benjamin Alan Border and 28 year old Nathan James Johnson are both charged with First Degree Kidnapping. Police also say during their investigation, they arrested two other men on drug-related charges.

Police are also asking for help from the public in finding a vehicle in connection with the case. They released a vehicle description, but did not say who the car belongs to, or how it may have been involved in the crime.

Police are only saying this car is "important to the investigation". They're looking for a turquoise 1994 Cadillac DeVille with four doors. It has Iowa plates: 494 WKI.  Police will only say it could be involved with Thursday's severe beating of Anthony Mcfarland.

20-year-old McFarland was discovered in a roadside ditch near a wooded area off of Utah Avenue, south of Telegraph Road Thursday morning. Police say a passerby noticed something around 7:45 a.m. and called police. McFarland is currently being treated at University Hospitals in Iowa City and is in very critical condition.  He had torso wounds, was severely beaten and unable to talk to police.

They identified him by his tattoos, and began interviewing friends and acquaintances. That led them to a home on West 68th Street Thursday afternoon. Neighbor Scott Smith says, "All of a sudden, there's like four squad cars, detectives, police. They came and asked about neighbor guy and where he worked and everything."

Offices interviewed several neighbors, even calling Jim Lund at work." The police officer, when I was talking to her on the phone, she said an assault had occurred across the street," Lund says."I thought if crime scene tape was going up, it was something more than a fist fight, you know."

Police are not confirming that. They are only saying the house is linked to them finding McFarland's body. He doesn't live there. But one of the men now facing drug charges rents the home. Police say search warrants at the West 68th home and another on Wilkes Street yielded over 100 pounds of marijuana, some opiates and a considerable amount of cash along with other pertinent evidence.
