DECATUR, Ill. (AP) - A Chicago man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for his role in a 2007 crime spree in Illinois that left a sheriff's deputy dead and ended after a hostage standoff.
Macon County Judge Tim Steadman sentenced 26-year-old Yusef Kareem Brown Friday in Decatur. Brown pleaded guilty last September to home invasion and aggravated kidnapping.
The June 21, 2007, crimes included the shooting death of Douglas County sheriff's deputy Tommy Martin and ended at a bank in Arcola.
Another Chicago man, 29-year-old William B. Thompson, was sentenced last year to life in prison. He pleaded guilty to murder in Martin's death.
The cases were moved to Macon County after a Douglas County judge said he knew Martin too well to handle them.
