The Quad City woman convicted of trying to trade her child for a wedding dress is sentenced to probation.
At the Scott County Courthouse this morning, the judge gave her a suspended, ten year sentence and five years probation.
Police say Marcy Gant bought, among other things, a wedding dress at a street side retailer and promised to pay over time, but she couldn't come up with the money.
That's when the vendor reported that she tried to trade her four-year old son to pay off the debt. Gant's four-year-old son and his ten-year old brother were living in Burlington, in foster care. But even with the distance, police took the allegations very seriously.
Here is what Police Caption Dave Struckman had to say back in October, "you don't know the mindset, you don't know what could have occurred, you don't know if her plan was to go kidnap one of her own children."
During the trial, friends said Marcy would never hurt her children and Gant claimed she just wanted the vendor to be her child's foster parent; but a jury didn't buy the story.
Gant was found guilty in October, one year after the investigation started.
Earlier this week, Gant's request for a new trial was denied.
