Quad City Cone Zones

Updated:

Construction season in the Quad Cities extends into the fall.  Work is being done in Moline on John Deere Road at 16th street.  Also, in Bettendorf, two of the big projects are on Utica Ridge Road between Spruce Hills and Tanglefoot; and Middle Road from Kimberly to Belmont.

In Davenport, two of the big projects are from 59th to Central Park on Welcome Way; and 53rd and Sheridan.  Northwest boulevard has been torn up for weeks.  Project Engineer, Eric Schallert, says the goal is to turn a two-lane road into four lanes, with left turn lanes throughout.  They will also replace a ditch drainage system, with a storm sewer system.

On Monday, traffic was being rerouted off the old road completely.  The detour moves drivers onto the completed Northbound lanes.  On Monday, KWQC news crews caught workers patching up some concrete and using a bulldozer to tear away part of the road.  Schallert says half of the paving is done on the project.  He says, "we have it set up so cars are running head to head on a concrete slab... they'll be some stop areas, and drivers will have to weave back and forth to get through."

A cold winter and wet spring delayed progress on the project early this spring.  Schallert says "it took a long time to dry out enough to get good production."  He says spring flooding forced crews to dedicate their work to different parts of town.

KWQC talked to several drivers who take Northwest Boulevard often.  Many say while it is a headache now, it will be worth it when the work is done.  Wendy Lewis says "for the most part, I don't mind it at all... its going to be real nice when its done."

Schallert says they hope to have the Southbound lanes paved by Thanksgiving and open for traffic.
