This weekend is a good time to check out the great attractions the Quad Cities has to offer as part of the annual "Be a Tourist in Your Own Backyard" promotion. The Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau says this is the 9th year for the promotion over the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday weekend.

50 businesses are offering deals and discounts to help you take a vacation in the Quad Cities

"With the economy the way it is, everyone is looking for deals and this is certainly an opportunity for Quad City residents to get out and stretch their limited dollars to take a break from winter weather and just enjoy what we have here in the Quad Cities day in and day out," according to tourism bureau director, Joe Taylor.

You'll find coupon books all over the Quad Cities offering discounts on attractions, restaurants and hotels. You can also find the deals on the QCCVB website and print off the coupons.

Meanwhile, organizers of the Quad City Boat Show hope weekend tourists will stop by the Davenport RiverCenter.

This year, they have more boats and new dealers at the event. And as in past years, its always nice to dream about summer fun on the water in the middle of January. Organizers say the economy may also help them, as more people stay closer to home for vacations.

The highlight for kids is "Crunch", one of the oldest and largest alligator snapping turtles in the world. He's over 150 years and weighs 165 pounds.

The Quad City Boat Show runs:

Friday 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
