CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Cubs have won their first game following the major league trade deadline. Jake Arrieta struck out seven in seven innings as the Cubs beat the Colorado Rockies 3-1. Arrieta improved to 6-2 as he got his first victory in a month.

DETROIT (AP) - The Chicago White Sox capitalized on big multi-hit games from three players as they beat the American League Central-leading Detroit Tigers 7-4. Moises Sierra had four hits, and Jose Abreu and Adam Eaton added three apiece. Abreu extended his hitting streak to 20 games. Ronald Belisario won in relief.

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Oscar Taveras has taken advantage of the potential for more playing time with the St. Louis Cardinals' trade of Allen Craig. He hit a two-run homer to fuel the Cardinals to a 6-2 victory. St. Louis swapped Craig earlier in the day as part of a deal with Boston for John Lackey.

CHICAGO (AP) -Derrick Rose is acknowledging some tension between members of his inner circle and Chicago Bulls management. He tells the Chicago Sun-Times things seemed fine when he "was around," but he would then hear they weren't. Rose praised the roster and said it's time to "move in a positive direction."
