Just days before the Iowa presidential caucuses, and the Newt Gingrich campaign claims someone tried to break into the candidate's Davenport headquarters. Volunteers say they left the office at 909 W. 76th St. late Saturday afternoon. When they returned Sunday, they discovered signs that someone tried to break-in.

"When we got here this morning we noticed the Newt Gingrich big banner that was on the side of the building had been removed and we thought that originally, that it was the wind that had taken it down and only upon closer examination did we find out ,you can see it has clearly been cut off," said campaign volunteer Mike Martin.

Volunteers also found that the locks on the front doors had been tampered with and lights were damaged. But Staff members say the culprits did not succeed in getting into the building and nothing was taken.

Meanwhile, Newt Gingrich is in Davenport Monday making a drive to get voters to turn out to the precinct caucuses and support him. He's scheduled to speak at 5:30 Monday night at his Davenport headquarters. At 8 p.m., he'll hold a town hall event with potential voters at the Hotel Blackhawk, 200 East 3rd St. in Davenport.
