It was a nice night to be out, and perhaps that's why so many TV6 viewers sent in photos and asked questions about a white circle, or halo, around the moon on the evening of Jan. 7th.
According to meteorologist Kevin Phelps, the "Halo" effect around the moon is caused by moonlight being refracted through ice crystals in the upper atmosphere. This phenomena does not happen very often.
