Influenza Picks Up In Iowa

Updated: Feb 10, 2012 04:07 PM CST

After weeks of mild weather and little to no flu activity, the Iowa Department of Public Health reports it's seeing more cases of influenza.

The flu season typically peaks in February and can last as late as May. The flu is a respiratory illness but can lead to deadly complications, like pneumonia. Symptoms may include fever, headache, fatigue, cold symptoms and body aches.

Health officials say you should cover your coughs and clean your hands frequently to help yourself and others stay healthy.
