IA Democratic Party Convention - June 16

Des Moines -- The Iowa Democratic Party will hold its biennial State Convention on Saturday, in Des Moines. Up to 1200 delegates are expected to be on hand, in addition to a host of representatives from Iowa's elected delegation.

Over the course of the event, attendees will elect Iowa's remaining delegates to the National Convention: 12 At-large Delegates; 7 Pledged Party Leader and Elected Official Delegates (PLEO) and 1 At-Large Alternate. IDP Constituency Caucuses will also meet and elect members to the State Central Committee. Delegates will also have the opportunity to elect two presidential electors and two DNC members.

Additionally, attendees at the State Convention will also vote on resolutions to the state party platform. The proposed state party platform is available on our website: http://www.iowademocrats.org/about/docs/

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, who is keynoting the June 15 Hall of Fame celebration, will also offer remarks at the state convention.

Among those scheduled to speak on Saturday include:  IDP Chairwoman Sue Dvorsky; Senator Tom Harkin; Congressman Leonard Boswell; Congressman Dave Loebsack; Congressman Bruce Braley; Attorney General Tom Miller; Treasurer Mike Fitzgerald; Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal; House Democratic Leader Kevin McCarthy; Linn County Supervisor Linda Langston; 4th District Congressional Candidate Christie Vilsack; and Gracie Brandsgard, President, College and Young Democrats of Iowa.

Where: Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center - 730 3rd Street, Des Moines, IA.

When: The convention convenes at 9 AM. Delegate Registration begins at 8 AM.
