A man was critically injured in an early morning crash in Rock Island Wednesday morning.
Just after 6:30 a.m., officers responded to the 2000 block of 1st Avenue where they found a 2009 Ford Focus in the grass. Police say the driver was traveling eastbound on 1st Avenue, left the road and struck a tree. When officers arrived, the 76-year-old male driver was unconscious and had to be extricated from the vehicle, which had heavy damage to the driver's compartment.
The driver was taken to a local hospital and then transferred to a hospital in Peoria with critical injuries. His name has not been released.
