A multi-car crash in Davenport Wednesday evening kept emergency responders busy.

Police say eight vehicles were involved and it all started when one car was rear-ended on Locust Street between Main and Brady Streets.

It happened right during the 5 o'clock rush hour and the crash scene, littered with wrecked cars, extended two blocks from Main to almost Perry St.

According to police, a Chevy S-10, driven by Andrew Hartman of Davenport, was traveling east on Locust St. near Main St., when it rear-ended a Buick Rainier, driven by Barbara  Pulliam of Moline.

After the impact, the Buick kept moving on Locust and crossed into the path of oncoming westbound traffic. It struck a total of six vehicles.

Police say five adults and four children were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Four of the vehicles had damage so severe, they had to be towed away.

Police say they are still investigating and charges are pending.
