The Henry County Sheriff's Office is investigating a drowning at Lake Geode over the weekend. Emergency dispatchers took a call around 4 p.m. about a possible drowning near the main boat ramp. Rescue teams from a number of agencies responded.

About two hours later, crews recovered the body of 51-year-old Howard Snider of Nevada, Iowa. Deputies are now investigating the circumstance around the drowning.

Update: According to the Associate Press, Snider was a sergeant with the Ames Police Department. He had been on the force since 1989.
