If you're an art lover, keep an eye out in Bettendorf for some new sculptures arriving over the next couple of weeks.
Since 2002, Quad City Arts has facilitated the leasing and installation of public sculpture in the Quad Cities. The city of Bettendorf has utilized the program since 2008.
Beginning June 27th, drivers will notice the sculpture currently at Martha's Point, disappear and a new sculpture take its' place. "Heartstrings" by Jerry Cowger of Waterloo, IA will replace "Seaspray" by Donald Horstman of Fenton, MO.
On the same day, "Prayer Torso" by Skip Willits of Camanche, IA will be replaced with "Trajectory" by Jaak Kindberg of Greenwood, AR in front of the Waterfront Convention Center.
On Friday, June 29th, a large scale sculpture called "Exhaling Dissolution," by Sarah Deppe of Maquoketa, IA will be installed, compliments of Hampton Cranes, in Faye's Field, the new park on the Learning Campus.
The three new sculptures will be in place through June, 2013.
Through the program, Bettendorf has purchased one sculpture for its' permanent collection entitled "Cradle" by Donald Horstman at the Waterfront Convention Center.
Another sculpture, "Unity," by Paul Bobrowitz of Colgate, WI, was purchased by Hawkeye Paving of Bettendorf and is displayed near City Hall.
The Quad City Arts Center Gallery is located at 1715 Second Avenue in the Arts and Entertainment District of Rock Island.
