Many area farmers' crops will be knee high by the fourth of July but they say the rain we got this weekend isn't enough. Grand Mound, Iowa farmer Joe Dierickx says it's shaping up to be a really dry growing season.

Since the week after Memorial day he's measured only 3/10 of an inch of rainfall. Leaves on corn have been curling in the heat and the plants are quickly using up moisture in the sub-soil, which he says can really affect the yield come harvest time.

"We need about 2/10 of an inch of rain to get us by everyday on a hot day and it's sucking all that moisture out of the ground right now. So we're getting dry," said Dierickx.

Dierickx says his and nearby crops could use nine to ten more inches of rain this growing season. Some farmers got some of that with the rain the last couple of days, but it seemed to be hit or miss.
