The high-speed chase started at 8:30 and ended less than five minutes later, but there were some tense moments as it happened. And two hours after, officers were still on scene at Fairmount and Kimberly.

Iowa State Patrol Senior Trooper Robert Smith says he tried to stop a car at 280 and Highway 6 for a tinted window violation, but the driver took off at speeds well over the posted limit. Smith gave chase, but stopped the pursuit when the driver crossed into oncoming traffic at WalMart. Moments later, he turned around and started to head back out of town, heading west in the west-bound lane.

The Senior Trooper re-engaged, stopping the car with a pit maneuver. It's legal. And, it basically involves the squad nudging the car into a ditch. The driver was taken to a hospital to be checked out. We're told he has minor injuries. The trooper was also unhurt.

Smith tells us the driver is 34-year old McKinley Lue. He is currently wanted by Davenport for reckless driving and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. He is also wanted in the 7th Judicial District, that's Scott County, for possession of a controlled substance, second offense. And the Senior Trooper says, Lue was previously barred from driving. Now, he is facing charges of felony eluding and felony delivery of marijuana.
