The Rock Island Consolidation Commission met for the final time Monday afternoon to submit their final recommendations to the county board .
And for the first time so far in this process, the public was allowed to stand up and comment.
The arrogance of these people to think that 21 members of a board should make this decision ... it's unbelievable," said Rock Island resident Paul Inman.
"We need more time to discuss this and we need to vote."
Several people stood up to speak about their concerns over aging county infrastructure and how they think the county should handle it.
Water damage, electrical issues, security concerns -- these are just a few on a long list of problems with the county buildings in question.
But even more concerning for those who made public comment is the fact that the public hasn't had much of a voice in this decision-making process so far.
Each of the consolidation committee members submitted a final recommendation, but those recommendations varied across the board.
"My recommendation is that we slow down a little bit, that we look at options in a little bit great detail," said commission member and Rock Island County Sheriff Jeff Boyd.
"I know there are other options out there but for the purpose of this committee we were only given four options"
Everyone on the commission said they had conflicting interests and few of them agreed on any one option as a whole. But many did agree with the public, in that some kind of referendum should be considered in the future.
