It doesn't seem to matter if you ask a man or a woman.  Someone young or old. The issue of legalizing medical marijuana for any purpose seems to push a lot of buttons. The only thing that stands in

A Rock Island family woke up in the middle of the night to smoke detectors going off in the basement. It happened around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Rock Island firefighters responded to the home located in the 900 block of 15th Street. When crews went inside they found smoke on the first floor and in the basement.

The firefighters used their thermal imaging equipment to identify the dryer as the source of the fire. They were able to put out the flames and remove the dryer by 2:00 a.m.

The American Red Cross of the Quad Cities Area is helping one adult and three children. The family asked for a hotel room for the night because one of the kids has severe asthma.

This is just the latest in a string of fires in the area. Kasey Kelly of the American Red Cross says the Quad Cities Area Chapter is helping 16 families affected by fires in less than a week.

The Quad Cities branch serves 10 different counties in two states:  Des Moines, Henry, Louisa, Muscatine and Scott counties in Iowa and Rock Island, Henry, Mercer, Bureau, and Whiteside counties in Illinois.
