The first witnesses have been called to testify in the Scott County trial of a man accused of a horrific murder more than a year ago. Eric Scott Olsen of Davenport was 36-years-old when he was first arrested on a charge of violating a court protection order.
The order was meant to protect 38-year-old Wanda Jo Weldy of Davenport. In January, 2011, she was found dead in the street in the 2700 block of North Fairmount. One neighbor reported waking up to an engine revving and watched as a truck backed out of a yard. Police say Weldy died from blunt force and that she had been run over. Weldy had sought court protection after she was the victim of a domestic assault, allegedly by Olsen, a week before her death.
Olsen is charged with 2nd degree murder along with homicide by vehicle and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
