A summer chore turned dangerous Wednesday sending one person to the hospital and putting a Davenport neighborhood on alert.

It all started when a woman was working indoors with a chemical used for treating pools. The woman was trying to dilute the granular chemical when according to her daughter, it exploded in a violent chemical reaction that filled the home with chlorine gas.

Firefighters and haz-mat crews responded to the home in the 2700 block of Grove Street. Two people were inside at the time of the accident and both were outside when they arrived. The woman was decontaminated at the scene and quickly rushed to the hospital.

"It was just an accident inside the home," said Davenport District Fire Chief Robbie Minnaret. "You need to follow manufactures directions on the label. We kept everyone out of harms way. We got everyone out and right now, there's no further danger," he added.

The area was sectioned off and the house was ventilated. The women's condition is unknown.
