It is located at Fourteenth and Ripley. It is an organization which promotes personal and spiritual growth among children and their families. For twelve years, Lydia Home has been a fixture in central Davenport.

Director Joyce Klopp says for many kids, it is their home away from home. She says the staff and volunteers impress upon youth and their families that they are loved. Every child is important.

The not for profit, Christian agency provides after school tutoring programs, staff teach life skills, and  about thirty children participate in a summer program.

Lydia Home also works with parents who may need encouragement and some extra help to raise their children.

Will Lacy is a Davenport educator. He leads group discussions where youth are expected to say something positive about each other. Lacy wants the kids to know that there are people in their lives who care about them, love them, and want to help them.

Lydia Home started almost one hundred years ago in Chicago to help orphaned children in that city. Since then, other Lydia facilities have opened throughout the country.

Lydia Home is named after a Christian woman who is mentioned in the Bible. The ministry serves thousands of children and their parents each year in communities throughout the United States.
