Drought conditions across Iowa and Illinois are becoming bigger stories and getting more attention by the day.

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has already released his plan to deal with the drought conditions. Quinn visited a family farm in the southern Illinois community of Waltonville on Monday. Much of the corn crop there is wilting.

He says Illinois will offer debt restructuring and loan programs to the farmers and ranchers impacted by the drought.

According to Governor Quinn, "A number of our counties are gonna be eligible for a variety of federal programs... we've gotta be on the front line with all of our farmers across Illinois that this is their hour of need and we will not forget them."

The Illinois Farm Bureau says it's the sixth driest year on record so far.

Tuesday morning, Iowa Governor Terry Branstad is holding a public meeting to talk about the impact dry conditions are having on the state.

The meeting is 9:00 in Mount Pleasant at Mount Pleasant High School. The meeting will address the coordination between the state and federal government to bring potential help to Iowa.

Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds will also be a part of the two hour meeting.

KWQC will have details on the meeting in your news at noon.
