The smiles are priceless! Special needs children riding horseback. They are developing skills with the help of volunteers and staff from the New Kingdom Trail Riders in Milan.

Since 1984, NKT has provided therapeutic programs for the educational and recreational benefit of disabled people in the Quad Cities.

On Wednesday, the young riders took part in a scavenger hunt. They rode around an obstacle course. The purpose of the event is to help the kids follow directions, locate objects, and identify colors.

Lisa Maxwell says the bond that has been established between her son Jacob and the horse is priceless.

Judy Blomgren's grandson loves to ride. The program is improving his interaction with other children. She also says horseback riding has helped to improve his balance.

Horses are the Heart of New Kingdom Trail Riders. That's the slogan. Seeing vast improvement in children in a short period of time.
