PLEASANT HILL, Iowa – A Pleasant Hill man says his daughter was in the Aurora, Colorado movie theater in which a gunman opened fire during the premier of the latest Batman film. The shooting early Friday morning killed 12 people and wounded 50 others.
Roger Ruden tells Des Moines NBC affiliate WHO-TV that his daughter heard and felt bullets coming into the theater during the shootout scene in the movie. Ruden says his daughter at first thought someone was shooting fireworks.
Ruden's daughter was unharmed but says the boy sitting next to her was struck in the arm by shrapnel. He is expected to be okay.
Police have taken the suspected gunman into custody. He has not yet been identified. Witnesses say the gunman kicked in an emergency exit door and threw a smoke bomb into the darkened theater before opening fire.
12 were killed by a gunman at the Century 16 movie complex in Aurora, CO Friday morning.
