Residents living on the western side of Davenport felt like an old friend returned home when a new business opened up Friday morning.

Tastee Freez, which was located on Rockingham Road, was built in 1954 and remained a flashback to the original drive through era.

Back in January, the business owner ran into financial difficulty and had to shut down. There was a huge outcry and many people shared their memories on our Facebook page.

Friday morning at 11:00, new owners reopened the business under a new name, The Rockingham Dairy Freez.

The new owners say they plan to serve-up the same kind of nostalgia along with delicious soft-serve delights.

For those looking to reminisce about the history of this location, check out a great web-page at The Unofficial Captain Ernie's Showboat website.
