It started with a text message a few months ago. Since then there are about 200 women involved in a group called the Sole Sisters.
It's a running and walking group. Women who are dedicated to healthy living while offering each other support and encouragement.
Holly Larson of Port Byron formed the group in March after receiving a funny response to a text message she sent to a girlfriend. Holly texted her friend and asked if she liked to run. The friend responded by saying she enjoyed running to the freezer to get ice cream.
From that humble beginning, Holly decided to go on facebook. She got an amazing response from women who shared her passion for physical fitness and fellowship. They were searching for a place to workout in the Port Byron area.
The ladies walk or run several times a week along the bike path in Port Byron. Maria Baldwin runs while pushing her daughter in a stroller. Maria says the group did reinvigorate her desire for running.
Several of the ladies are training for Saturday's Bix 7 Race in Davenport. Christine Enright trains with the Sole Sisters and will run the Bix. Christine says she needed the inspiration and motivation to get out and run, and Sole Sisters fit the bill.
Many of the ladies are from Port Byron, Cordova, LeClaire and other communities. They've become friends. Women inspiring women stride for stride. Giving it their heart and SOLE!
