Update: Officials announced on Tuesday that the burn bans in Barstow, Hillsdale, Cordova, Port Byron & Rapids City will be lifted on Wednesday, August 15th, 2012.

Original story from July 24th: Burn bans across the area continue to be put into place with the continued hot and dry conditions.

Cordova Fire Chief Chuck Smalley says that a burn ban is in effect starting Tuesday until further notice for Cordova, Port Byron, Rapid City, Hillsdale and Barstow, IL.

These departments recently got together to discuss their concerns of the dry weather and decided to issue a burn ban. The ban will remain in effect until further notice.
