You don't have to be in London to be excited for the summer Olympics.

One billion people are expected to watch tonight's opening ceremony and many Quad Cities residents are planning special events to commemorate the start of the games.

Mary Kauten of Bettendorf is hosting an Olympic watch party to celebrate the occassion.

"We get to celebrate our country and all the hard work are athletes have achieved," Kauten said.

In Rock Island, the Fitness and Activities Center is hosting a Family Olympics Event geared at getting families interested in the games.

"It's a great oppurtunity for families to get together and go and have a night out and kinda celebrate the olympics in their own way," Debbie Weston of the Activites Center told KWQC.
