The Clinton County landfill caught fire late Sunday night. It happened around 10:00 p.m. The landfill is located in the 4200 block of 220th Street in Clinton.

Firefighters from Low Moor and Camanche responded. Crews used water like they usually do in their firefighting efforts, but they also used soil to smother the flames. Firefighters say they had the fire under control within 15 minutes. There's no damage.

This is the second landfill fire in our area this year. A fire at the Iowa City landfill started at the end of May. While the majority of that fire is finally out, the Iowa City Public Works Director said just last week that the fire was still burning under a layer of clay being used as a suppressant.
