River Bend Foodbank Receives Donation From Local Pork Producers

Updated:

The River Bend Foodbank recently received a sizable donation to help feed hungry families in the area. Pork producers from the Knox County Pork Producers and representatives from local food bank agencies will gather Wednesday morning at Thrushwood Farms Quality Meats Inc. in Galesburg, Ill., to recognize the donation of 2,600 pounds of ground pork to the River Bend Foodbank. The pork was donated as part of the Pork Power: Partnering to Fight Hunger in Illinois initiative.

The Illinois Pork Producers Association has partnered with the Illinois Corn Marketing Board, the Illinois Soybean Association and the Illinois Association of Meat Processors to donate pork to the eight statewide food banks associated with Feeding America, the nation's largest charitable hunger-relief organization.

According the River Bend Foodbank, this donation will provide more than 10,400 servings of protein to people in the River Bend Foodbank territory. Since the program began in 2007, Pork Power has provided more than 260,000 pounds of ground pork to Illinois food banks equaling more than 1 million servings of pork provided to hungry Illinois residents.
