Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is taking a stand against assault weapons in the state. Quinn used his amendatory veto power to include an assault weapon ban in a bill related to ammunition sales.

This happens on the heels of the deadly Colorado shootings. Quinn says that case along with the shootings at Northern Illinois University in 2008 is the reasoning behind his proposal.

The ban would include the manufacturing, delivery, sale, and possession of semi-automatic weapons and attachments. It'll be up to lawmakers as to whether to accept Quinn's changes.
