Gymnasts Admire The Olympic Spirit

    Jeep dealers, including those in the Quad Cities area, are waiting on details on a massive recall just announced Tuesday.

On the beam. Practicing on the bar. Doing a floor routine. The Junior Olympic Team members at the Quad City Gymnastics Academy in Milan are head over heels in love with the sport.

Dave Van Acker is their coach. He competed in gymnastics at the collegiate level and acknowledges that there is not much margin for error, especially at the Olympics.

Kaelyn Causemaker marvels at the Olympic talent, and says Gabby Douglas is one of her favorites.

Many of the young girls at the academy train anywhere from twelve to twenty hours a week. They compete in eight to ten meets a year. Some will go on to compete in college.

Van Acker says gymnastics puts wear and tear on an athlete's body. He tells the girls that the sport should also be fun.

Several of the girls have been watching the Summer Games and are thrilled that the USA Women's Team is bringing home some gold!
