Davenport Police responded to an accident on I-74 near the 53rd street overpass Thursday morning around 7:43. Police say a black 2000 Honda Civic driven by Kohovis Agassounon, was traveling north bound on I-74 west approaching the 53rd St. overpass. A white 2003 Chevy Malibu driven by 27-year-old Megan Mehan of Davenport Iowa, made an unsafe lane change to around some slower moving vehicles into the path of the Honda. These un-involved vehicles, including the Malibu, had just entered I-74 via the eastbound 53rd St on ramp to I-74 west.
According the police report, the Honda made an evasive maneuver to avoid rear ending the Malibu by steering on to the left median side shoulder, which caused a loss of control. The Honda veered right trying to regain control but over corrected to the left causing it to cross over the median as it rotated counter clockwise and entered the oncoming Illinois bound traffic on I-74 east.
As the Honda slid across the Illinois bound lanes it was struck in the rear by a southbound 2012 Chrysler 200 being operated by 46-year-old Tamara Leathers of Wilton Iowa, in the outside Illinois bound lane. The impact caused the Chrysler to flip onto its top as it slid to a stop to the south the area of impact.
Three occupants of the Honda, as well as the driver of the Chrysler, where transported to Genesis Hospital East and are expected to be treated and released.
The driver Malibu that police say precipitated the crash, Megan Mehan, was cited with making an unsafe lane change.
