It's that time of the year once again. Shoppers are hitting the aisles in search of good deals and tax free items during this year's Iowa Tax Holiday.

"It saves us a lot of money so definitely worth it," Shopper Katrina Keller says, "It adds up, especially when you have 3 kids, it's an insane amount of money, especially on a budget."

K-Mart employees are expecting a huge flood of people through their doors in the next two days.

"We're expecting a 25 percent traffic increase for this Friday and Saturday," Manager Amie Stone says, "Probably an extra 500 people on both days."

Stone says many are getting the tax break through layaway programs, estimating an extra 30 percent in layaway sales.

"They stock up and use our layaway and they get that extra tax saving, and they stock up on their back to school needs," she says.

Many are saving where they can, some even getting a head start on their holiday shopping.

"Christmas is just around the corner, and it's better to put out your payments in months than just pay for it right away," Shopper Cheri Theue says.

Though the state will lose out on an estimated three to four million dollars in taxes this weekend alone, shoppers are enjoying the savings.

The tax holiday mainly applies to clothing and shoes under $100. It goes through Saturday until midnight.
