The community of Hall High School in Spring Valley is grieving the unexpected loss of a student. 17-year-old Daniel Lule collapsed 20 minutes into a non-contact drill during football practice Wednesday and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Grief counselors were on campus Thursday and again Friday to help students, parents, and teachers cope with the loss. The cause of death is still unknown, but an autopsy is being conducted and the Bureau County Coroner's Office could release results by Friday afternoon.

The District Superintendent Mike Struna says the boy seemed to be in good shape and had participated in practices earlier this summer.

"Daniel was here in July when we had our summer contact days and worked hard every day and did all of the work and all of the right things to get ready for football," said Struna.

Hall Township is part of the Big Rivers conference, which includes several Quad City area schools.
