Mercer Co. Teen Wins Livestock Competition At State Fair

Updated:

Credit for the best steer in the state goes to a Mercer County teenager. On Saturday, A.J. Line of Seaton, Illinois was honored when his steer was chosen grand champion at the Illinois State Fair.

According to the University of Illinois Extension Service,  the 16-year-old has been showing livestock for eleven years. The crossbred steer he raised this year will be sold on Tuesday. He said he already has plans for the money.

"It'll go straight to college and next year's steer," Line said.

Last year's steer raised more than $51,000.
