They are a championship family. Some members of the Adamson Family will be competing in the New Windsor Rodeo this weekend. Several are award winners in team roping.

Mike Adamson says there is a tremendous amount of excitement when tracking a steer. Out of the chute, a cloud of dust, the chase is on.

The Adamsons practice regularly at the Oxford Ranch near New Windsor. Gary Adamson says a person cannot start roping without first being a good horseback rider.

The header ropes the front of the steer, usually around the horns. The heeler is responsible for roping the steer's hind feet. Two riders working in tandem as they try to rope a steer in four to five seconds.

Team roping runs in their blood. Several Adamsons have received championship buckles. Maggie Adamson is eighteen years old and loves the sport. She says there's usually that one good run and it's a confidence booster.

Practice and more practice is part of the routine. Mike Adamson sometimes will work on his roping technique fifty times a day. He says it's all in the wrist.
