For those lucky enough to get tickets to see President Obama Wednesday afternoon in the Village of East Davenport, there will be some transportation issues to be aware of.
One of the first things to remember is parking will be very limited. Davenport Police say you should plan to arrive very early. They say walking will be necessary and recommend to car pool if necessary.
Parking will be off limits from River Drive to 12th Street and Mound Street to Jersey Ridge. River Drive is still closed from Iowa to Oneida and there are several detours.
In addition to the street and road closures, traffic on the Mississippi River will also be shut down. The United States Coast Guard confirms the river will be closed from 4:00 p.m. to after 7:00 p.m., from Mile Marker 483 (Lock and Dam 15) to Mile Marker 486.5 (up river from the I-74 Bridge).
While this closure will not affect the Celebration Bell River Boat, the Channel Cat Water Taxi will be stopping services early.
The last run of the day for the Channel Cat will leave Moline at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday. According to the posted schedule, the Channel Cat will arrive at the Village of East Davenport Landing at approximately 2:45 p.m.
Attendees who plan on taking the Channel Cat to the event will have to make other arraignments for their return trip.
The Davenport Police remind attendees not to bring items that, due to security reasons, will not be allowed in the event. They also request ticket holders to be respectful of the property of others as well as patient and courteous to other attendees.
Police say streets within the Village of East Davenport business district will be closed at noon on Wednesday but all businesses will still be open.
To accommodate the street closures, traffic will be detoured away from the site. Police ask motorists who don't have a reason to be in the immediate area to seek alternate routes of travel away from the visit site.
Police say that congestion and delays are probable. They expect normal traffic flow to resume some time after 6:00 p.m.
