When a car winds up in the Mississippi River, who are you going to call? The Illinois Department of Natural Resources called Chad Pregracke of Living Lands and Water.
The conservationist is well know for pulling trash out of area waterways. On Tuesday, he was able to help the DNR pull a stolen car out of the Sylvan Slough.
"It was quick, simple, got it out there. Its pretty much a hazard to navigation. It was sitting this far out of water or so. Good to get out of there. Sorry for the blue gills that lost their home, it was awesome," Said Pregracke.
The low river levels revealed the car, which was just inches below surface of the water. The DNR was initially called pull it out, but it officials said it was going to cost too much, so officers asked Pregracke for assistance. Pregracke gladly accepted, saying it's part of his job.
"It's always cool to pull something big like that out. Small stuff always adds up, but when you pull out a car or something like that, it's very rewarding. At the same time, you don't who what's going on inside of it," Pregracke added.
Pregracke had some help as well. He called a towing service that pulled the car back onto dry land. There's no word on who is the owner of the car.
