A Slice of Small Town America

Celtic music fills the air. The aroma of homemade food is heavenly. The Scone House in Grandview, Iowa has become the heart of the community.

Mary Cunningham has a love for old buildings. She and her husband Tim bought the home. The building used to be a girls' dormitory back in the 1800's. It was affiliated with Grandview Academy. The academy was the first training school for teachers, west of the Mississippi River.

Now, the former dormitory is a bed and breakfast, and a place where people come for wonderful food, fellowship, and music. Tim Cunningham plays the guitar. Shilo, Tim's son, is extremely talented on the violin. Mary Cunningham also occasionally gets in on the act when she is not in the kitchen preparing meals.

The Cunninghams had a dream to own a bed and breakfast. They purchased the former dormitory for 25 thousand dollars. It is the talk of the town. Mary says she had a feeling that a business was needed in this town of about 600 people.

Paul Stineman, a long time resident, says he was tickled pink when the Cunninghams decided to restore the historic building!
