Update 8-30-12: According to WIU, The individual who filed the report of a sexual assault on the Macomb campus has recanted the initial statement. The investigation is closed.

8-27-12: There has been a sexual assault reported on the Western Illinois University campus in Macomb. According to the university website, a female student reported that she was walking alone on Adams Street around midnight Saturday when she was grabbed by a man and sexually assaulted on the lawn of Sherman Hall, the main administration building. Campus police are investigating.

University officials are reminding students not to walk alone. If they cannot walk in groups, students are encouraged to use the free campus bus or call for a public safety escort.
