The 26th Annual Quad City Air Show is getting ready to take-off. Preparations are going on at the Davenport Municipal Airport for this weekend's event.

Thousands of people are expected to go to the air show, which means there will be a lot of traffic around the airport. For general admission, air show organizers are asking that you exit Highway 61 at exit 125. You should then go south on Harrison Street, into the airport and find parking.

"Our headliner this year is the United States Air Force Thunderbirds," says QC Air Show President Ken Hopper.

The Thunderbirds are a big act that will draw thousands of people to the Quad Cities Air Show.

"I think people are just fascinated with their skills'," adds Hopper.

The Thunderbirds aren't the only act that will fly into town this weekend.

"This year our theme is the dream team. Every single act is a team and you're going to see multiple planes in the air at one time," says Hopper, "It's going to be very exciting, I think it's the first time it's ever happened."

To get ready for the performers and their fans, organizers are setting up at the airport in Davenport.

"The set up is in progress right now and everything is right on schedule," says Davenport Municipal Airport Manager, Tom Vesalga."

A pretty big crowd is expected, so organizers are asking that you arrive early.

"We're looking at lots of traffic as we have in past years," adds Vesalga, "We'll have individuals out there directing traffic and we just ask that everybody be patient."

To avoid people parking in restricted areas, the airport is putting up fencing to make sure people stay in designated areas.

"As people come in they'll see roped areas," says Vesalga, "We just ask that you don't cross the roped areas. There will be individuals there helping everybody parking, so it should be very easy."

As the air show gets closer, organizers are excited and ready for the event to take off.

"When it gets closer to Thursday and Friday it starts getting exciting to me, because it's more real," adds the airport manager, "I can actually touch the fences and the vendor booths and start seeing airplanes arriving."

The air show is this Saturday and Sunday at the Davenport Municipal Airport. Gates open each morning at eight.
