Moline Mayor Don Welvaert is not running for a third term next Spring. Welvaert made the announcement at Tuesday night's city council meeting.

"All things have to pass and I believe there are other people who have great ideas out there that can keep the city moving forward. I would like to give them the opportunity to do that," the mayor told TV-6 in explaining his decision.

The husband and father of two was elected to his first term as mayor of Moline in 2005. He was re-elected in 2009. Welvaert's current term ends next May. He plans to stay involved by volunteering on city boards and commissions.
