A Dixon, Illinois man is in jail, accused of punching a toddler in the stomach. 28-year-old Eric Ellis was arrested Tuesday after an investigation by the Dixon Police Department.

According to a news release, on Aug. 6, authorities were notified that a two-year-old girl was admitted to a hospital in Rockford with a perforated bowel.

Dixon police contacted the United States Secret Service to assist in the investigation and administer polygraph tests on those who had been identified as suspects. During the course of the investigation, officials determined that Ellis punched the two year old victim in the abdomen, causing the injury.

Ellis, is charged with aggravated battery of a child and aggravated domestic battery. He's being held in the Lee County jail.
