There has been a fiery crash involving a flight team performing at the Quad City Air Show. An eyewitness, who was traveling on westbound I-80 at the time, tells TV6 that three jets were flying in formation when one of them veered off and crashed into the ground, bursting into flames. It happened around 1:30 Saturday afternoon near the Flying-J truck stop in northwest Davenport.

KWQC-TV has confirmed that the pilot is dead. A name is not being released pending family notification. We have also confirmed that it involved the Hopper Demo Flight Team.

Police spent the night guarding the debris field. Setting up caution tape and barricades over an area 200 yards long by 75 yards wide. FAA investigators spend Saturday afternoon setting flags into the ground to mark wreckage from the aircraft. They will return to the scene Sunday to begin collecting the debris. It will be taken to a hangar for further investigation.

The Quad City Air Show will continue as scheduled Sunday. Air Show officials say they have no plans to commemorate the fallen pilot. Performers will attend a scheduled safety briefing, as they have been for every other show day.
